Carol and Lorraine Rothman took a bus across the United States sharing self help with a box of speculums marked "TOYS." This was the start of the women's self help movement, and the beginning of a power shift in women's health. Women wanted to control their own reproductive destiny, to be able to decide when they had children, and be informed decision makers about their health care.
Women also understand the relationship between working out and how it can affect everything they do in life. Most major health issues affecting women can be treated or improved by a simple workout plan. Weight loss and cardiovascular exercise help everything from stress and heart disease to diabetes. And don't forget the small, but important "fringe" benefits of fitness such as just feeling better about yourself, having more energy for your family and loved ones and living a life that begins every day by feeling good about getting up and getting moving.

Mammography Did you know that sometimes it’s all right to actually put yourself and your needs first? In fact, in this case, it’s ‘doctor’s orders.’ While breast cancer is a frightening possibility for many women—modern technology has given us a powerful tool for early detection. So put down whatever you’re helping someone else with at the moment and make time for proper screenings.

When the Supreme Court handed down the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion the self help group of mothers, housewives, clerical workers and activists started a clinic, hired doctors to perform the abortions, created woman-centered abortion care, and developed and promoted safer medical techniques that have raised the standard of abortion care nationally.
This gym is absolutely amazing! It is located in between State Street, Downtown Crossing, and Park Street Stations (which makes it extremely easy to get to). The staff are welcoming, and the owner helpful. They make you feel right at home. Not only is the staff great, but the gym itself is very appealing. There are also fitness classes and personal trainers available. I personally work out there every morning and love every second of it. There is never a wait for machines or any equipment. It is overall a great place if you really want to focus on your work out.
Entertaining and spending time with my crazy husband, insane family and amazing friends mean everything to me!  The more the merrier! I am inspired in my fitness journey by my youngest son. At age 18, he moved to California, planted a church, went to college and lost over 100 pounds.  Two years later, he ran the San Francisco Marathon and is currently training for the Seattle Marathon. I don’t see a marathon in my future, but I am learning to never say never!
When I first arrived the customer service was great. The woman at the desk took me around the space—-showed me the lockers etc. I wasn’t sure about using a locker because I wasn’t sure how it worked to get a lock… worried that it may be a hassle… but it was super easy. You pick a locker key out of an envelope by the front desk and leave a photo ID (license) in the envelope. The # on the key is the number of your locker. The locker room, showers, etc. were super clean. I really like the space.
LARC stands for long acting reversible contraception. This category includes intrauterine contraception (IUCs/ IUDs) which can last for 3-10 years, and implanted devices (Nexplanon®) which are effective for up to three years. LARCs are >99% effective at preventing pregnancy. That is as effective as permanent sterilization procedures! All LARCs are completely reversible. After removal, resumption […]
The Feminist Women's Health Center is a living symbol of women's freedom and self-determination. We continue to advocate, promote and protect reproductive rights for all women. Our philosophy of sharing information to give women control over their gynecological health and reproductive choices, and our absolute belief that women have the right to choose when, if, and under what circumstances they will have children, sets us apart from other abortion and women's health providers.

Women have many unique health concerns — menstrual cycles, pregnancy, birth control, menopause — and that's just the beginning. A number of health issues affect only women and others are more common in women. What's more, men and women may have the same condition, but different symptoms. Many diseases affect women differently and may even require distinct treatment.
